We are already learning more details about Zion Williamson’s new contract for the maximum salary allowed. His representative agency, CAA Sports, has confirmed to journalist Adrian Wojnarowski that he will be guaranteed 193 of the 231 million dollars that were initially targeted.
That yes, Zion could reach those 231 ‘kilos’ mentioned if he achieves any of the objectives they have agreed, such as being included in the Best Quintets of the Year, winning the MVP of the regular season or with the award for Best Defensive Player of the Year, among others.
Williamson, a natural wonder, missed the entire 2021-22 campaign with a broken foot; however, the Pelicans management has full confidence in the ceiling of him as a player, who aims very high. Zion started strong and in his rookie campaign he became the second player in history with at least 20 points and 55% shooting from the field, behind only the legend Shaquille O’Neal.
And in his second year he continued to make history in the NBA with 27 points, 7.2 rebounds and 61.1% shooting from the field, being the player with the highest scoring average with at least 60% shooting. Likewise, he was also named an All-Star, and started as a starter. The youngest to achieve it, only behind myths like Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant and LeBron James.
With his return to the field of play, the sky is the limit for Willie Green’s Pelicans, who staged a remarkable second half of the season last year. Brandon Ingram, CJ McCollum, Jonas Valanciunas, Larry Nance Jr., José Alvarado, Herbert Jones and the aforementioned Williamson, among others.
