The Ukrainian team delivered a clear anti-war message ahead of the opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games in Beijing.
As seen in a video shared on social media, the 20-strong team in the waiting area of the National Stadium before entering the national stadium displayed a banner that read “Stop the war! Peace to Ukraine.” Some of the delegation members had tears in their eyes as they sang Ukrainian songs.
As a result, many other teams showed their solidarity, numerous athletes from other nations encouraged the Ukrainian athletes and hugged them. The German crew took off their caps as they marched in to send a sign of peace.
However, the action did not receive the desired attention because it was not visible in the worldview. Only “ZDF” captured the gesture with its own camera and submitted the images during the live broadcast.
