World Championships in Athletics: Women’s relay sprints to the final

The German women’s relay reached the final over 4×100 m at the World Championships in Athletics in Eugene with the fourth best time overall.

Tatjana Pinto (Wattenscheid), Alexandra Burghardt (Burghausen), Gina Lückenkemper (Berlin) and Rebekka Haase (Wetzlar) finished third in their heat in 42.44 seconds and thus qualified directly for the final on Saturday (19:30 EST/4:30 a.m. CEST on Sunday morning).

“It worked, let’s see what’s in it in the final,” said Lückenkemper, who had reached the semi-finals in singles, on “ARD”. Last runner Haase said: “We have reached our first goal, now it’s full throttle.”

Great Britain (41.99) and the Olympic champions and world champions from Jamaica (42.37) were ahead of the German quartet, who took fifth place in this line-up at the Olympics in Tokyo. m World Champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce waived.
