The most successful track and field athlete in World Championship history is making her comeback just eight days after what was supposed to be her last race at a major event.
Allyson Felix will start at the World Athletics Championships on Sunday night (2:10 a.m. CEST) in the heat for the 4×400 meter relay of the USA.
“The coaches asked if I was available and there was no way I would let the team down,” the 36-year-old wrote in an email to the US news agency, according to the AP.
Felix has won 19 medals at World Championships in her career and stood on the podium at a total of 30 World Championships or Olympic Games. On the first day of the World Championships in Eugene, she won bronze in the 4x400m mixed relay and was then celebrated and said goodbye to the great sympathy of the spectators.
