Wimbledon: Alcaraz loses youngster duel with Sinner

Shooting star Carlos Alcaraz missed the first quarter-finals of Wimbledon after a feat on Center Court. The 19-year-old Spaniard lost the duel with the one-year-old Italian Jannik Sinner 1: 6, 4: 6, 7: 6 (10: 8), 3: 6 on Sunday evening.

Against the world number 13. Alcaraz fell behind early on. After just 32 minutes, the climber on the tennis scene lost the first set, after which his opponent successfully defended an early break to take a 2-0 lead.

In the tie-break of the third round, Alcaraz fended off two match points and forced the Italian into the fourth set. There, after 3:35 hours of play, Sinner used his sixth chance to win.

In the third round, Alcaraz, who was in fifth place, defeated German number one Oscar Otte (Cologne) in three sets.

Sinner’s quarter-final opponent was then determined between defending champion Novak Djokovic (Serbia) and Dutch outsider Tim van Rijthoven.
