Double packer Niclas Füllkrug has shot Werder Bremen back to the top of the table in the 2nd Bundesliga and spoiled the debut of Dynamo Dresden’s new coach Guerino Capretti.
The top scorer made the difference in the 2-1 (2-1) against the relegation-threatened Saxons with his goals twelve (16th) and 13 (45th) this season.
With 48 points, Bremen leads the table ahead of Darmstadt 98 and FC St. Pauli (both 47). The trio has already pulled away from the pursuers, 1. FC Nürnberg has 42 points in fourth. Dresden (26) is on the relegation place and is two or three points behind Hansa Rostock (28) and SV Sandhausen (29).
Dresden got off to a stormy start on Sunday. After Werder goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka had brilliantly parried Michael Sollbauer’s header (2′), Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer (2′) struck at the subsequent corner.
However, Bremen remained stubborn, dangerous – and could rely on Füllkrug. After a one-two with Marvin Ducksch, the striker equalized, then he headed in after a Christian Groß cross.
Dresden, who released coach Alexander Schmidt during the week and signed Capretti, kept up well. The guests, who last won in the 2nd league in mid-December, did not show any uncertainty. In the second half, Dresden again and again made dangerous shots, but Pavlenka was there.
