The German swimmers clearly missed a medal on the last day of the open water competitions at the World Championships in Budapest.
Andreas Waschburger (35) from Saarbrücken fought his way up to eleventh place in the 25 km race under great heat after 5:04:47.8 hours. World Cup debutant Ben Langner (Magdeburg/20) came in 13th in the 28 degree warm Lupasee.
Gold went to Italy’s Dario Verani in the final men’s race ahead of French titleholder Axel Reymond and Hungary’s Peter Galicz.
For the German open water team, however, the World Championship competitions were extremely successful. All in all, Florian Wellbrock and Co. won four medals (2 gold/1 silver/1 bronze) before crossing the finish line in the final women’s race.
