VfL Wolfsburg | Schmadtke supports Coach Kohfeldt

Sports director Jörg Schmadtke would like to get through the current crisis at VfL Wolfsburg with coach Florian Kohfeldt.

“The trust is there,” said the sporting director of the German press agency before the important Bundesliga home game against Hertha BSC (Saturday, 3:30 p.m. / Sky). “I see how he works. I see how he interacts with the team week after week and what content he installs. However, we all know that there comes a point where things are difficult to maintain. But we are still a long way from that point . The conviction still outweighs the current picture.”

Before the crisis duel with the Berliners, Wolfsburg had already lost eight competitive games in a row. In view of the “free fall” of the past few months, Schmadtke admitted that before this season it might have been a mistake to keep the successful squad of previous years together instead of specifically giving new impetus.

“It’s a bit like naming Saturday’s lottery numbers on Sunday, but I’m definitely up for the discussion,” said the 57-year-old. “We made decisions in the summer that were made with the utmost conviction and that had the thought that we would keep a homogeneous, strongly performance-oriented group that wants to take the next step. From today’s perspective, you can put a question mark behind it.”
