Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg finished last in a blitz tournament with Hannover 96 and VfL Osnabrück – and coach Niko Kovac was very upset afterwards.
“I’m not a friend of defeats, I don’t like that at all,” said the new head coach. “That’s not our claim.”
In the “Volkswagen Cup”, Wolfsburg competed for 45 minutes against their Lower Saxony rivals. The disappointing results: a 1:3 against third division club VfL Osnabrück. And a 1-1 draw against Hannover 96.
In his criticism, the former Bayern coach also denied that VfL is only at the beginning of its pre-season preparations and that numerous national players such as Jonas Wind or Jakub Kaminski will only start team training this Monday after completing performance tests.
“We still have a lot to do,” said Kovac. “We worked in the offensive area, I only saw a bit of that today. We haven’t worked in the defensive group yet, I saw a lot of construction sites there.”
