VfL Wolfsburg | Kohfeldt optimistic despite the horror series

Blank faces among his players, he himself was boundlessly disappointed. But Florian Kohfeldt believes that VfL Wolfsburg is on the right track even after the eleventh game without a win.

“You can see that the work of the last few weeks is slowly beginning to pay off,” said the Wolves head coach after the 2-0 defeat at runners-up RB Leipzig. They would have taken steps forward. “Both in terms of our attitude on the pitch, but also in terms of content, and I am firmly convinced that we will win against Fürth in two weeks, which will hopefully solve a lot in our heads,” said Kohfeldt.

Going into the two-week break with enthusiasm: he has all the pros on board, doesn’t have to release any national players and the to-do list is full. Offensive play, behavior in the box and pressing. “Basically, I see my team in an offensive defense with high pressing,” he explained, adding: “I would like to play with a back three.” And according to Kohfeldt, the team is ready to implement these things. “With full conviction,” he added.

“Maximum Confidence”

He received full support from his superiors for the relegation duel on February 6 (5:30 p.m.) against bottom team SpVgg Greuther Fürth. Wolfsburg’s sports director Marcel Schäfer said clearly and unequivocally: “Yes. It’s also the case that we want to go through this phase together.” There is “maximum trust” between him, Schäfer and sports director Jörg Schmadtke, said Kohfeldt.

The Wolfsburg team took two out of a possible 27 points, nine of the eleven games without a win were lost. “If you have shit on your feet, it just sucks,” emphasized Wolfsburg’s Maximilian Arnold. “We all gave everything,” said keeper and captain Koen Casteels: “It’s very bitter.”

All the more painful: Leipzig played lackluster and took the lead with a “shit goal” – as Willi Orban himself said of his goal. When Wolfsburg was looking for a draw, Josko Gvardiol followed suit. RB recorded the third Bundesliga win in a row. And Kohfeldt screwed his private negative series with his teams in Leipzig to five defeats – in five attempts.
