Claus Vogt, President of the Bundesliga soccer club VfB Stuttgart, has ruled out consequences for coach Pellegrino Matarazzo despite the ongoing crisis. Nevertheless, the tone of conversation is slowly becoming sharper.
In view of the relegation crisis, there is “definitely no emergency plan. So I definitely think it’s too early to talk about the second division,” said Vogt on “SWR”.
Sports director Sven Mislintat had already strengthened Matarazzo on Sunday after six games without a win. The coach is “one of the most important parts of this club that makes this path possible. We go our own way,” said Mislintat.
Even with a descent there is a “clear commitment”. VfB, with its many young players, needs a coach “who develops”. And this is Matarazzo.
Hitzlsperger denounces VfB players
Rather, the head of sports held all those responsible responsible. “Now it shows whether we are just talking about an old new club philosophy and identity or whether we live it. Whether we want continuity or live it,” said Mislintat.
CEO Thomas Hitzlsperger had criticized the team after the 2: 3 against Frankfurt on Saturday. “It’s not enough like this. If we continue like this, we’ll have massive problems. The boys have to motivate themselves. If they don’t manage to do that, they’re out of place,” said Hitzlsperger.
“You can see that the team is struggling with the situation in the table and cannot play freely. You can see the potential that is there. But it’s not enough to have potential,” complained the former international and appealed to the professionals : “The players have to realize that they need to invest more and not wait for someone to motivate them.”
Vogt also sees the problem “currently in the team”. The players would “feel the explosive situation. That they are simply afraid of making mistakes and playing like that”.
