BVB had to do without their three top performers Erling Haaland, Mats Hummels and Emre Can in the bitter 2: 5 home slap against Bayer Leverkusen last Sunday. On Wednesday it became clear how the Dortmund trouble trio would continue with regard to the next Bundesliga game.
The bad news from BVB’s point of view first: Erling Haaland had to sit out team training on Wednesday afternoon and was absent from the training session at the training ground in Dortmund-Brackel.
According to the current status, there is a very high probability that the black and yellow top scorer will fail again against Union Berlin next Sunday.
Haaland is struggling with muscular problems again this season and only watched the bankruptcy against the Werkself last Sunday from the stands.
Hummels and Can before BVB return
The situation is different for the German internationals Mats Hummels and Emre Can. Both BVB players trained with the team in the afternoon and included the intensive preparation for the weekend.
Hummels had recently suspended training due to an infection and only sat on the bench against Leverkusen. Can was even forced to watch the last three competitive BVB games after complaining about ongoing muscular problems.
2014 World Champion Hummels could return to the starting XI for central defender Dan-Axel Zagadou in the away game in the capital. The young Frenchman proved prone to errors in several situations last weekend.
While the 33-year-old Hummels has played 17 of the 21 games in the current Bundesliga season, Can has played twelve times.
