Top favorite Tadej Pogacar has suffered a setback ahead of his bid for his third Tour de France win.
The 23-year-old Slovenian cannot count on his helper Matteo Trentin for the Tour of France starting in Copenhagen on Friday after the Italian tested positive for Corona.
As the UAE Team Emirates announced on Wednesday, the three-time Tour stage winner Trentin (32) has no symptoms. The Swiss Marc Hirschi is in the squad for him.
Recently there had been numerous corona cases in cycling, especially at the Tour de Suisse. The organizers of the Tour de France have relaxed the strict Corona regulations at short notice. A positive corona finding no longer necessarily means the exclusion of a driver. In addition, the rule that the entire team is excluded in the event of two positive corona cases no longer applies.
