Tottenham v Arsenal postponed due to lack of players

The Premier League’s north London derby between Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal has been canceled due to a lack of players among the guests. The league announced this.

“With Arsenal having fewer than the required number of players available for the game (13 outfield players and one goalkeeper), the board have complied with the club’s request,” the Premier League said in a statement.

The lack of players in the team of German goalkeeper Bernd Leno is not exclusively due to the corona virus, it said. Injuries and the participation of some players, including Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, in the Africa Cup of Nations also contributed to this.

However, clubs can only make a request to postpone a game if coronavirus cases are also a reason for it.

In the past few weeks, numerous Premier League games had been postponed due to corona. It was not yet clear when the games would be rescheduled. A date has yet to be found for almost 20 games.
