Andreas Christensen from Chelsea FC is considered a hot candidate to succeed Niklas Süle at Bayern Munich. André Schubert, who has already coached the Dane at Borussia Mönchengladbach, believes that his former protégé could prevail with Munich.
“Christensen would go well with Bayern and with Julian Nagelsmann because he is very intelligent, strategically very, very good and clever and has very good positional play,” said Schubert in an interview with “sky“.
The 25-year-old national player is a professional who can play in a back three and four as well as in front of the defence. Schubert can therefore well imagine that Christensen can “help Bayern”. “He does what is expected of him in the build-up game. If he needs to take more risks or dribble more often, he will do that,” the coach, who is currently without a club, emphasized other strengths.
Schubert and Christensen worked together at Borussia Mönchengladbach from November 2015 to December 2016. Even at a young age, the huge potential of the defender caught my eye.
“It was already clear back then that he would develop in this way,” enthused Schubert, adding: “He only came to Gladbach with experience from a league game for Chelsea, but then played every game and played in the Champions League in the played at a very high level against top teams like Manchester City or Juventus Turin at the age of only 19. He was already a top performer back then and it was actually clear that he would go further.”
Barca compete with Bayern at Christensen
Christensen’s contract with Chelsea expires at the end of the season and there is no prospect of an extension.
In addition to FC Bayern, FC Barcelona in particular is the favorite in the race for the former Gladbach player. What’s more, the Catalans are even said to have the significantly better cards in poker.
The “Fichajes” portal is already reporting “advanced talks” between Barca and Christensen, who apparently can reconcile the idea of moving to the top Spanish club.
