First division relegated Werder Bremen has continued its winning streak in the 2nd Bundesliga. At the start of the new year, the Hanseatic League defeated Fortuna Düsseldorf 3-0 (0-0).
With 32 points, Werder have moved up to third place after the fourth three in a row.
However, it took until the 66th minute before Niclas Füllkrug scored the 1-0 with a header. The referee gave the goal after video evidence, the cross came from Marvin Ducksch, whose supposed 2-0 was not given in the 73rd minute after video evidence because of an offside position.
Previously, the Düsseldorf team had lost Kristoffer Peterson in the 58th minute after a serious foul against Felix Agu with a red card. Ducksch’s goal in the 80th minute was legal, and Füllkrug added his second goal (87′).
Fortuna collapses after being sent off
Already in the ninth minute the hosts had the first chance by filling pitcher. However, his header went just wide of the goal.
Just six minutes later, Leonardo Bittencourt had the next opportunity for SV Werder on his feet. However, he hesitated a little too long, so that the ball was deflected and tumbled out.
In the 20th minute Ducksch also had the 1-0 for Bremen on his feet. Düsseldorf goalkeeper Florian Kastenmeier steered the ball over the crossbar after Ducksch’s direct acceptance.
Only after half an hour were the Rhinelanders able to make the game a little more open. The guests kept up well until they were sent off, but lost the thread as a group of ten and in the end hardly put up any resistance.
