Teammates support Robert Lewandowski and Manuel Neuer

On Monday evening, Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski and Manuel Neuer will be up for election at “The Best FIFA Football Awards”. Your Munich teammates, like coach Julian Nagelsmann, firmly believe in the two world stars.

There are quite a number of individual awards given out for professional footballers who like to talk about putting themselves at the service of the team.

The “Ballon d’Or”, for example, which the French trade newspaper “France Football” awards and which used to be awarded to the best footballer in Europe and later to the world footballer.

These two prizes have long since been awarded at their own celebrations by UEFA and FIFA respectively. There are also a number of other awards from several countries – with decreasing radiance.

Now it’s FIFA’s turn again (from 7 p.m.) – and the most important football prize in terms of name could go to the Bundesliga again.

Defending champion Robert Lewandowski from FC Bayern, along with Lionel Messi (Paris Saint-Germain) and Mohamed Salah (Liverpool FC), is one of the finalists chosen by players, coaches, journalists and fans. When the Golden Ball was awarded at the end of November, the Bayern striker lost to Messi.

FC Bayern: Nagelsmann, Gnabry and Pavard rely on Lewandowski

“He has the blessing of us players that he wins,” joked Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who has been nominated for the world goalkeeper election. Coach Julian Nagelsmann said of Lewandowski: “Hopefully he wins the title he deserves.”

Serge Gnabry is also keeping his fingers crossed for his teammates. “I wish both of them win the titles. They have both been very consistent in recent years at a level that no one else has played at in their position. That’s why they deserve it,” said the winger Bayern homepage quoted.

Benjamin Pavard agrees: “Simply because they’re both great players, legends. They show that every day. It’s a great pleasure to play with players like that. I hope with all my heart that they win their title.”

However, it is difficult to predict football prices, or it is now more difficult. In the 2010s, Messi and his longtime rival Cristiano Ronaldo were pretty much seeded in every possible election, with very few exceptions. There was no way around Lewandowski last year after Bayern’s triple triumph.

In the 2020/21 season, Munich won the championship, with Lewandowski improving on Gerd Müller’s age-old goal record.
