Süle-Aus “quite a blow” for Bayern

On Wednesday, Oliver Kahn confirmed that Niklas Süle will not extend his expiring contract with FC Bayern and will turn his back on Munich in the summer. If you believe ex-national player Dietmar Hamann, this is quite problematic for the German record champions.

“It’s a big loss for Bayern, quite a blow in terms of sport and finance,” Hamann explained in an interview with “Evening News“When asked about Süles’ imminent departure from FC Bayern. Losing the German national defender on a free transfer in the middle of the corona pandemic is “particularly painful”. Especially since the 26-year-old is underestimated anyway.

Hamann, on the other hand, has doubts about Dayot Upamecano, who moved from RB Leipzig to Säbener Straße in the summer of 2021. “One has to wait and see whether Dayot Upamecano can really replace him. He has to correct the mistakes and bring consistency to his performances. I don’t know whether Süle has been a worse central defender than Upamecano in the past two or three years,” said Hamann .

Either way, FC Bayern will probably have to sign a replacement for Süle. Most recently, Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rüdiger from Chelsea and Denis Zakaria from Borussia Mönchengladbach were traded. The trio would be available on a free transfer in the summer.

Süle successor at Bayern? Hamann names favorites

Christensen “would help Bayern tremendously and would be a great signing overall as a replacement for Süle,” says Hamann as his favorite. The ex-FC Bayern player also has a reason ready: Christensen outperforms the other two in the game opening and is therefore perfect.

While Hamann also considers Rüdiger to be a good candidate, the verdict on Zakaria is less glorious. “Zakaria is more of a defensive midfielder than a centre-back. I would be wary of him as he’s prone to injury.”
