The record Olympic champions from Canada started their ice hockey preliminary round game against Russia at the Olympic Games in Beijing an hour late – with masks.
According to the Canadian TV broadcaster “Sportsnet”, the world champions initially refused to compete because the opponent had not presented them with negative corona test results. So it only started when both teams had put on mouth and nose protection under their bars.
The Russian team, which officially competes in Beijing under the name of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) because of the Sochi 2014 doping scandal, was in quarantine before the start of the tournament. PCR tests were positive for six players. Like Canada, Russia has already played two games in Beijing.
