The former top German referee Bibiana Steinhaus-Webb has sharply criticized the way her ex-colleague Felix Zwayer was treated.
“It makes my throat tight. It’s not something I want for our professional sport,” said the former Bundesliga referee at “Sport1”.
It is “not to be accepted and tolerated that an athlete from our midst has to fear for his life and his family and leaves the house with police protection because he doesn’t know what awaits him around the next corner,” said the 42 -year-old and emphasized: “If this is our football, I don’t want to be part of it.”
After the excitement about his role in the Bundesliga top game between Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern Munich (2: 3) in December, Zwayer decided to take a break for the time being. The 40-year-old Berliner had been severely attacked on social media after the game, and later he reported a death threat. The “kicker” recently reported that Zwayer had decided to continue his career in professional football.
