Snowboard superstar Shaun White will contest his fifth Winter Olympics in Beijing.
As expected, the three-time gold medalist in the halfpipe was nominated by the American Ski and Snowboard Association for the highlight of the season in China (from February 4th) on Saturday night.
“I don’t want to steal that expression from the documentary about Michael Jordan, but this will be my ‘last dance’,” said the 35-year-old. “It’s a bonus round, something I didn’t expect and I’m still in it , still strong, motivated and ready to ride.”
White’s participation was considered likely, but not certain. At the end of December he suffered from COVID-19, in the team’s internal ranking he only took fourth and thus last quota place. At the penultimate World Cup in Mammoth Mountain, he missed the final before finding his old form in third place in Laax.
