Slalom driver Dürr had “a certain lack of plan”

Ski racer Lena Dürr struggled for a long time with not being able to meet the expectations placed on her.

“I had a certain lack of plan, I was too insecure. That’s a problem, especially in slalom, when you have to react at lightning speed,” said the 30-year-old of the “Rheinische Post”.

For years, Dürr was considered a potential successor to Olympic champion Maria Höfl-Riesch in the German team, but could not withstand the pressure. “Then it hits you, of course. But maybe I had to go through it to get to where I am now.”

After her three podium finishes this season at the Olympic slalom in Beijing, Dürr is considered a medal candidate – but she doesn’t want to talk about that. “Driving for placings has never worked for me. With that attitude, I was last at the start in Schladming – and I finished third,” said Dürr.
