Serial winner Martin Nörl wants to know at the Olympics

Series winner Martin Nörl looks confidently at his competition in snowboard cross. However, he does not expect a sure-fire success to win Olympic gold on Thursday (from 2:00 p.m. OZ/7:00 a.m. CET).

“The track here is not bad for me – but it’s not a second Krasnoyarsk,” said Nörl (28) after the most recent training impressions on Monday in Zhangjiakou.

The World Cup leader won two World Cups in Russia in January, and he also won the Olympic dress rehearsal in Cortina d’Ampezzo. “It’s good for me that the course is very wide, so you can overtake easily,” said the sports soldier from Adlkofen. But: “Anything can always happen” in a direct duel with three other athletes. At the World Cup in China in November, Nörl finished seventh.

After Nörl’s winning streak, assistant coach Korbinian Harder recognized a certain amount of respect from the competition: “When Martin starts training upstairs, the cameras go on for the coaches along the route. Of course, the other nations know where to look more closely.”

Other German starters on Thursday are Paul Berg (Constance) and Umito Kirchwehm (Altglashütten). Already on Wednesday (2:30 p.m. OZ/7:30 a.m. CET) Jana Fischer (Löffingen) will be on the course in the women’s competition. In addition, on Saturday (February 12), the mixed team event is on the program for the discipline, which has been held since 2006.
