Separation from Ondrej Duda is becoming apparent

It was only in September 2020 that 1. FC Köln signed Ondrej Duda from Hertha BSC for around seven million euros. About two years later, an ugly separation is imminent.

After Duda missed Cologne’s first week of preparations due to his participation in the Nations League with Slovakia, the attacking midfielder also signed off for the second week at short notice due to illness.

“I haven’t spoken to him yet, but I will tonight,” thepicture“Effzeh trainer Steffen Baumgart.

According to the “kicker” everything points to a separation. According to “Bild”, the people of Cologne would be willing to let Duda, whose contract runs until 2024, go for a fee of three million euros. However, there are currently no potential buyers.

Duda experienced a season to forget in the Effzeh dress. The 27-year-old mostly did not get beyond the role of substitute player and was often only on the pitch for a few minutes.

Overall, Duda made 34 competitive appearances, but he was only allowed to play 20 times from the start. The ex-Berliner only played four times over the full 90 minutes. The meager yield of two goals and an assist are on the books.

Duda suspension causes a stir

Duda also made negative headlines with his squad scandal in the final spurt of the season. According to media reports, the 27-year-old refused to warm up as a reserve player about ten minutes before the final whistle in the 3-1 win over Arminia Bielefeld on matchday 31. As a result, the Slovak was provisionally excluded from team training.

Trainer Baumgart forgave his protégé for this misstep. “You have to shut down the whole issue. We are in football, everyone is there with emotions. Ondrej as well as the coaching team. He reacted out of disappointment at the weekend. We talked about it and made a decision,” commented the coach.
