Canada’s freestyle skier Mikael Kingsbury surprisingly missed out on the gold medal on the moguls at the Beijing Olympics.
The dominator and Olympic champion from 2018 had to admit defeat to the Swede Walter Wallberg (83.23) with double-digit minus temperatures in the Genting Snow Park in Zhangjiakou with 82.19 points and won silver. Bronze went to Ikuma Horishima of Japan (81.48).
After gold in Pyeongchang and silver in Sochi in 2014, it was the third Olympic medal for six-time world champion Kingsbury. With 101 World Cup podium finishes, including 67 victories, and a total of nine overall victories in the Discipline World Cup, Kingsbury was actually one of the clearest gold contenders at the Games.
But Wallberg, who was only 21 years old, surprised the dominator with a fast and flawless final round and was crowned Olympic champion in his first participation.
