After his indisputable performance in the first World Cup downhill run in Wengen, ski racer Andreas Sander will not participate in the second race in the supreme discipline on the Lauberhorn.
“Active and the coaching team have decided together that Andi will prepare for the races in Kitzbühel instead,” said the German Ski Association.
The World Cup runner-up fell on Friday as 41st in an already surprisingly weak German team. “At the moment the worm is in there. Nothing fits together,” he said and seemed at a loss about three weeks before the Olympics.
In the Austrian ski Mecca of Kitzbühel, the speed riders will have their dress rehearsal for Beijing next week. On the notorious Streif, there will be one downhill run each on Friday and Saturday. In China, medals will be awarded in the fast disciplines on February 6 (Downhill) and February 8 (Super-G).
