Championship runner-up Olympique Marseille and coach Jorge Sampaoli surprisingly parted ways after only a year and a half of working together.
The decision was made by mutual agreement, said the French first division soccer team. Sampaoli took over the team in March 2021, his contract ran until June 30, 2023.
“We are satisfied with what we have achieved and with the emotions we have experienced together. But after a long period of reflection, the two parties have agreed to end this period,” the club’s statement said.
The 62-year-old Argentinian was reportedly dissatisfied with the club’s transfer policy, and the reinforcements he had requested had not yet come.
Sampaoli led the club to a runners-up spot behind Paris Saint-Germain and the semi-finals of the Conference League last season
