Nick Salihamidzic’s farewell to FC Bayern is becoming more concrete. After there were only loose rumors in the last few days, everything seems to be going very quickly now. The 19-year-old is said to be on his way overseas with his father, sports director Hasan Salihamidzic.
After seven years at Bayern Munich, Nick Salihamidzic, the son of the Munich sports director, could be over for the time being with the German record champions. The right-back is apparently facing a move to Canada. There, the Vancouver Whitecaps are vying for the Bayern talent, the club from which Alphonso Davies moved to Säbener Straße in 2019 and rose to stardom.
Whether Salihamidzic will end up writing the same story is still open. After “Bild” and “Transfermarkt.de” recently unanimously reported that the 19-year-old defender should hire the Canadian club on loan, which is active in the North American professional league MLS, the latter portal is now following suit.
Accordingly, the negotiations are now so advanced that a confirmation of the change is expected shortly. After numerous talks over the past few days, Nick and his father Hasan Salihamidzic are now set to travel to Canada to finalize the transfer.
FC Bayern: Salihamidzic must extend with Salihamidzic
Salihamidzic will sign in Vancouver for 18 months, but will initially approach the Whitecaps farm team in the MLS Next Pro. However, it is understood that the right-back will train alongside the MLS stars. Over time, the right-back, who has a Spanish and Bosnian passport, is set to become one of the key players in the professional team.
But in order to be hired in Canada at all, Salihamidzic must first extend his contract with FC Bayern. This expires in 2023. So it’s certainly not inconvenient that his father is the head of sports.
With a view to playing in the MLS for a year and a half on loan, Hasan Salihamidzic would have to extend his son’s contract until at least 2024, according to the statutes. However, that should be a formality.
