Russell Westbrook has confirmed through his agent Thad Foucher that he will cash in on his $47.1 million player option for the 2022-23 season, journalist Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
After said movement, the gold and purple franchise will have committed almost 130 million dollars only in three players: the aforementioned Westbrook, LeBron James and his partner Anthony Davis.
Westbrook has been the subject of numerous transfer rumors after his discreet first year at the Lakers where he has received numerous criticisms due to his hasty game and/or his little defensive participation.
Despite the fact that his signing meant the beginning of a possible dynasty in Lakerland. None of that happened, and after their problems adapting to Frank Vogel’s board and the subsequent injuries of Anthony Davis and LeBron, they fell out of the playoffs, being 11th in the West with a record of 33-49.
In 78 official games (all as a starter) his averages were 18.5 points, 7.4 rebounds and 7.1 assists with 44% field goals and 29% triples in 34.3 minutes per day.
