Rugby 7s team celebrates two wins at the start of the European Championship

The German 7-a-side rugby national team also made a successful start to the second European Championship tournament. The selection of the German Rugby Union () won their first two group games in Kraków on Friday and is again aiming for group victory.

First, the team of national coach Clemens von Grumbkow defeated Georgia 22:12, before the Wolfpack clearly prevailed against the Czech Republic (34:10) in the evening. The last two group games against Belgium and France are still scheduled for Saturday, with the final round following on Sunday.

In the first of two European Championship tournaments, the German team secured victory against Spain in the final in Lisbon. Now the second tournament is on.

Meanwhile, the German women suffered a small setback in the fight to stay up. In their first two group games, they lost to Poland (0:43) and the Czech Republic (15:24). Ireland and Romania are still waiting on Saturday. In Lisbon, women had finished eighth.

Teams receive points based on tournament placement. After the two rounds, the points are added up and the European champion is crowned. In 2019, Germany secured their first European men’s title by beating Spain.
