With even more horsepower under the hood, RTL Deutschland will be broadcasting in the fast lane again in 2022. On pole position: the pinnacle of motorsport! RTL is again showing four Formula 1 races live on free TV this year. There are real F1 delicacies.
It starts on April 24th with the Grand Prix of Emilia-Romagna from Imola. The races from Great Britain (Silverstone, July 3rd), the Netherlands (Zandvoort, September 4th) and Brazil (November 13th) are planned as further live broadcasts, subject to possible changes to the race calendar.
For the new season, presenter Florian König, commentators Heiko Wasser and Christian Danner as well as track reporter Kai Ebel will again guide the TV broadcasts on air. Laura Papendick also remains part of the F1 team and will moderate the Dutch Grand Prix on RTL.
At the beginning of 2021, RTL secured the rights to four F1 races in the 2021 and 2022 seasons exclusively for free TV as part of a partnership with Sky Germany. All Formula 1 races can be seen live on Sky.

“RTL Deutschland is starting the new year with an extensive motorsport portfolio that we are absolutely convinced of,” says Frank Robens, Head of Sports Rights and Sports Production, RTL NEWS. “With the premier class of Formula 1, the most important long-distance races worldwide and the leading series in GT racing, the most important dates on the motorsport calendar for 2022 can be found in our programme.”
Andreas von Thien, Head of Sport, RTL NEWS adds: “The interest in Formula 1 on free TV is unabated. The strong ratings of the last broadcasts not only underline the importance of the racing series, but are also a pointer to the connection that has grown over decades between Formula 1 and RTL. We are looking forward to an extensive package, in which we draw on our many years of motorsport expertise. In terms of content, we will again accompany motorsport intensively in the coming year beyond the live races – in our news broadcasts and on our digital platforms.”
