Rose counters teasing about Patrik Schick

Before the top game against Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund is plagued by personnel worries. BVB coach Marco Rose commented on a tip from the ranks of the Werkself because of the alleged interest in striker Patrik Schick.

As coach Marco Rose explained at Borussia Dortmund’s matchday press conference on Friday, it is “unlikely” that leading players Mats Hummels, Erling Haaland and Emre Can will be fit again in time for the game against Bayer Leverkusen.

“Today, two days before the game, none of the three are team training, it will be more than tight. It is not to be expected that one of them will come tomorrow,” announced the BVB coach. Only at Hummels there is hope that it could at least be enough for the squad, according to Rose.

Haaland suffered a muscle injury in the last Bundesliga game against Hoffenheim, and Emre Can was also recently suffering from muscular complaints. Meanwhile, Hummels was ill.

BVB: Marco Rose is looking forward to Reyna’s comeback

Meanwhile, Rose can look back on a very productive week of training with the healthy players, in which the focus was particularly on defensive work. Against Leverkusen, however, “they will be measured and settled on the pitch. That means we have to do it on the pitch now,” announced Rose.

A glimmer of hope for the coach is the return of Giovanni Reyna. The offensive player is about to return to BVB after a month-long break due to a torn fiber.

“He was sick for another day that week. But he came back the next day because he really wants to be there. I’m happy. He had two good weeks of training and seems normal,” said Rose, describing his impressions.

The football coach left it open how much time he plans to play for the American on Sunday.

“Patrik Schick is an excellent striker”

The latest tip from Leverkusen coach Gerardo Seoane, according to which a change to BVB does not represent a step up for the allegedly courted Patrik Schick, leaves Rose cold.

“I believe that everyone is allowed to have their own opinion and that opinion should also be respected. That’s just an opinion and I’ll leave it as it is. Patrik Schick is an excellent striker and a good guy. I also have an opinion: Borussia Dortmund is always a worthwhile address,” said the BVB coach.

All statements from the BVB-PK to read:

+++ Rose about the defense concerns +++

“We don’t do it on purpose. But wanting to change it is even more important. It has to get into our heads to defend our own goal even harder. The way we’re set up is often very offensive. But even if it’s not it’s your supreme discipline, it’s part of playing football. We’ll have to get damn better and clearer.”

+++ Rose about Max Eberl’s PK +++

“I’ve seen her. Max is an extraordinary person and a top manager. And I’m happy to discuss everything else with Max. And I also believe that it’s a topic that only concerns us both if we want to talk about it.”

+++ Will Leverkusen be as difficult as Hoffenheim? +++

“Leverkusen has a different structure than Hoffenheim. Wings often have two players, not just wings like Hoffenheim. Leverkusen often have one-twos, Diaby, Frimpong with many one-twos. They are rightly third in the table. They’ve done really good work over the years and there are always good guys be brought in. Basically, we want more from the game and also more dominance.”

+++ Does BVB set a scent mark against Leverkusen? +++

“Because it’s expected of us. If we lose games, that’s a problem. A win doesn’t set as many scent markers as a loss at Borussia Dortmund.”

+++ Rose on the focus of training +++

“We worked a lot on the subject of duels: looking for duels, leading them and then winning them. You could tell in the games that we had to work on that. We had a common thread there and it would be nice to have Sunday on the to make room.”

+++ Rose on Reyna’s return +++

“Gio is back, very cool. He was sick one more day that week. But he came back the next day because he really wants to be there. I’m happy. He had two good weeks of training, seems normal. You have to see for how long after the long break.”

+++ Rose on the plan against Leverkusen +++

“We have to defend well, diligently and intensively. We have to be careful that there isn’t too much of an exchange of blows. A few weeks ago they played completely on the switch against Leipzig. You then have to see relatively quickly what your plan is for that day. We have to be really good on the ball and clean with the ball. We shouldn’t lose balls quickly. I’ll tell the team the final plan of the game tomorrow and you’ll see it on the pitch on Sunday.”

+++ Rose over Leverkusen +++

“Since the film hasn’t been shot yet, we have the chance to help determine the script. Of course we want to improve our points tally and perform well in a top game against a good opponent. We were able to experience that in the first leg and also the development afterwards in Leverkusen.”

+++ Rose about the training over the break +++

“We really had two very good weeks of training. It was very good in terms of content and intensity. It will then be measured and settled on the pitch against those third in the table. That means we have to do it on the pitch now. But we were able to train a lot . The U19s helped and the U23s, but we also had a few absentees: Emre, Thomas Meunier only got back on yesterday.”

+++ Rose over painting +++

“Good development over the months. We know everything that he didn’t come here in good shape back then. He can now focus more on his game and his qualities. But there’s always the issue: He gets a lot of praise but has to keep at it and more I want to help him with that, of course.”

+++ BVB and Leverkusen on an equal footing? +++

“I believe that everyone is allowed to have their own opinion and that opinion should also be respected. It’s just an opinion and I’ll leave it as it is. Patrik Schick is an excellent striker and he’s a good guy. I also have an opinion: Borussia Dortmund is always a worthwhile address.”

+++ Rose about the staff +++

“Today, two days before the game, none of the three (Emre Can, Mats Hummels and Erling Haaland) have team training, it will be more than tight. It is not to be expected that one of them will come tomorrow. Mats maybe, he was today At least ride a bike. We’ll have to see if it’s going to be something for the squad after all. But that’s unlikely to be more than tight.”

+++ Here we go +++

The press conference in Dortmund with Marco Rose is about to begin. The BVB coach is already sitting and waiting for the questions.

+++ Are Erling Haaland and Mats Hummels missing from BVB? +++

Before the game against Leverkusen, BVB are again worried about injuries. Top striker Erling Haaland has been suffering from a muscle injury since the last Bundesliga game in Hoffenheim two weeks ago. The latest signs indicated that Borussia would probably have to play without their goalscorer on Sunday.

Emre Can was also struck earlier in the week, and Mats Hummels was also ill. Marco Rose should provide the latest information on BVB staff.

+++ Will BVB put on a spectacle again? +++

BVB vs. Bayer – this pairing has regularly offered plenty of spectacle in recent years. In the first half of the season, Dortmund won a thrilling game in Leverkusen 4-3 after falling three times behind. Does Dortmund’s head coach Marco Rose expect another offensive firework from the two teams on Sunday?
