Real separates from coach Laso

Spain’s record-breaking basketball champions Real Madrid have parted ways with their coach Pablo Laso “for medical reasons”. After the 54-year-old suffered a heart attack during the playoffs in Liga ACB in early June, the club decided to split after consulting cardiologists and other doctors.

“For the club, Pablo Laso’s health is a top priority out of respect and love for him,” said Los Blancos. The doctors had explained that if he continued, it would be “a clear risk to the health of the coach”. Real can understand that Laso makes the decision sad.

Madrid had offered the Spaniard a temporary resignation and to see how his health develops. In “March or April” the situation should have been reassessed. Apparently Laso refused, and now he was dismissed.

“Real Madrid believe that following this acute heart attack, it would be totally irresponsible not to take this decision,” the statement said. Even without Laso, the club won the championship title.
