Press comments on Formula 1: “Ferrari seems to be in a giving mood”

Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen won the Hungarian Grand Prix thanks to a strong race to catch up and further extended his championship lead. The Dutchman fought his way up from tenth on the grid in his Red Bull on Sunday.

In Budapest, the 24-year-old relegated the British Lewis Hamilton to second place in the Mercedes. Third was his compatriot George Russell in the second Silver Arrow. The international press writes about this:

Great Britain:

“Daily Mirror”: “Max Verstappen survives Dreher to win Hungarian Grand Prix while fending off Lewis Hamilton’s attack.”

“Daily Mail”: “Max Verstappen gets a breathtaking victory at the Hungarian GP from far behind on the grid 10th, Lewis Hamilton overtakes his Mercedes team-mate George Russell in a brilliant final sprint and finishes second.”

“L’Equipe”: “Dutch driver Max Verstappen (Red Bull) once again took advantage of Ferrari’s strategic mistakes and won at the Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday.”

“La Gazzetta dello Sport”: “Max, who started tenth, pulls off a feat by passing everyone and taking his eighth win of the season.”

“Mundo Deportivo”: “It is said that the great champions are those who are not wrong at key moments. Max Verstappen and Red Bull are clear examples of this. (…) The Dutchman delivered a concert this Sunday and won the Hungarian Grand Prix against Russell (second) and Lewis Hamilton (third). There wasn’t even a Ferrari on the podium, not one! Unbelievable but true.”

“Sports”: “Logic is nothing for Max Verstappen. And neither for Ferrari. In Hungary this weekend everything pointed to a double victory for the Scuderia and many problems for the Red Bull leader (…). But in the moment of truth the Dutchman was able to read the race at the Hungaroring better than anyone and clinched victory, his eighth of the season and which could be championship worthy.”

“Courier”: “The Ferrari team is striking this year with its extremely social behavior. The Italians seem to be in a giving mood, because mistakes give Red Bull and Max Verstappen victories in particular.”

“View”: “Verstappen wins after mega catch-up race in Budapest”
