Recently there have been rumors about details about the upcoming offshoot of the Mario Kart series. While the name is still being debated, some changes to the game mechanics appear to have already been leaked.
Leaks about the next Mario Kart are constantly appearing on social media. Considering the age of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, it is not surprising that Nintendo is working on a new part.
The only offshoot for the switch so far appeared in April 2017 and will consequently be five years old in a few months. It’s the longest losing streak between two installments in the hit series – if you don’t count Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit among them.
Because in 2020, Nintendo released the game in question, a way to turn your own four walls into a racetrack and drive on it virtually. However, it is not known whether Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit is counted as part of the main series by the Japanese developer.
Therefore, there are also ambiguities regarding the naming of the upcoming part. Mario Kart 9? Or Mario Kart 10, because Home Circuit is part of the main series?
In terms of content, one seems to want to say goodbye to the second item slot. The ability to hold two items at once was introduced in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and met with mixed opinion.
In return, a recent leak indicates the introduction of large and small item boxes. While weaker items are hidden in the small boxes, the large boxes offer powerful tools.
It is also conceivable that held items will be upgraded when a new box is collected. So, for example, a single red tank would be upgraded to three red tanks.
The truthfulness of the new rumors cannot yet be determined without further ado. Officially, Nintendo hasn’t even confirmed that it’s working on a new Mario Kart.
