Ömer Toprak is one of the leading players in second division soccer team Werder Bremen. However, the 32-year-old is only tied to the SVW until the end of the season. However, the former BVB and Bayer Leverkusen professional is in no hurry.
“I really haven’t given it any thought yet. We’ll see, it’s still early days,” said Ömer Toprak shortly before the start of the 2nd Bundesliga’s new football year.image“. Nevertheless, he announced: “We will certainly talk to each other.”
The central defender first came to the Weser on loan from Borussia Dortmund in 2019, before moving to Bremen on a permanent basis. He has made eleven appearances in the lower house this season, and a calf injury in the fall put him out of action for several weeks.
Toprak is now “finally fit” and “things are going better” with Werder. Since he continues to “extremely enjoy” his work, he wants to play “another year or two”. As for his future, there are “several variables,” says Toprak: “There’s the club, me and the coach. At some point you look and speak. There’s no rush. I’m relaxed.”
Toprak doesn’t like to talk about the goal of Ascension
Ultimately, the defender can just as well imagine a contract extension at Werder Bremen as a change. Alone, if his physical condition does not allow otherwise, he would think of ending his career prematurely.
With Werder Bremen, who challenge Holstein Kiel on Saturday (1:30 p.m.), a successful second half of the season should be contested anyway. Ömer Toprak doesn’t want to talk about promotion just yet, “because I can see where we stand and how many teams want to attack”.
After 18 games played, the Bundesliga relegated team is only in seventh place. “It’s just difficult. But of course I don’t forbid anyone to say it and dream about it. But if you think about such things now, you can quickly lose touch.”
