Olympics 2022 | Schott brakes German figure skating descent

With an almost flawless short program at the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, Nicole Schott was at least able to slow down the sporting decline of the German figure skating team.

The six-time German champion came sixth at the end of the preliminary round in the team competition.

The girl from Essen showed a successful combination of a triple flip and a triple toe loop to tango sounds, the triple Rittberger was slightly devalued because of underrotation. After her freestyle, Schott fell into her trainer Michael Huth’s arms with relief. 62.66 points was a season record for the sports soldier.

The German athletes had already lost the qualification for the freestyle final on Friday, not even eighth place, which is important for financial support in the coming years, was achieved. In the end there was ninth place out of ten teams.

The highlight of the women’s competition was the appearance of the only 15-year-old Russian Kamila Valjewa. Crowned by a triple axel, the European champion scored an outstanding 90.18 points. Wakaba Higuchi from Japan (74.73) and Madeline Schizas from Canada (67.56) came closest to her.
