No world premiere in Beijing: figure skating superstar Yuzuru Hanyu failed the quadruple axel at the Olympic Games.
The Japanese fell in this jump with four and a half turns in the freestyle decision. After the short program, the Olympic champion from 2014 and 2018 was only in eighth place.
The first runner to cleanly land a triple axel was Canadian Vern Taylor in 1978. Eleven years later, Midori Ito (Japan) became the first woman to achieve the three-rotation king jump.
