Olympics 2022 | Kilde fifth, Shiffrin out: glamor couple missed gold

Cloudy day for alpine dream couple: Ski stars Aleksander Aamodt Kilde and Mikaela Shiffrin experienced a disappointing start to the Winter Olympics in China.

Kilde had to settle for fifth place in the downhill, Shiffrin even dropped out in the first round in the giant slalom.

They both started the race as favorites – the Norwegian Kilde, who has already won three World Cup downhill runs this season, his American partner Shiffrin, who won the 2018 Olympic giant slalom in Pyeongchang. They both suffered a setback, both of them carried it with composure.

“I’m not going to cry now, it just wastes energy,” said Shiffrin before Sweden’s Sara Hector went to gold. Of course, she felt “great disappointment,” said the 73-time World Cup winner.

But now she wants to focus on her next races. The slalom is on Wednesday. This is Shiffrin’s parade discipline.

And Kilde? The 29-year-old applauded Olympic champion Beat Feuz from Switzerland fairly. And already has the next opportunity in mind. In the Super-G, which is scheduled for Tuesday, he has already celebrated three successes this winter. Lucky in love, unlucky in games? The alpine dream couple wants to change that in China.
