Olympics 2022 | Ice hockey: DEB captain names “by far the most important personal information”

The future of national coach Toni Söderholm also occupies the German ice hockey team at the Winter Games in Beijing.

Before the start of the Olympic men’s tournament, national team captain Moritz Müller appealed to the German Ice Hockey Federation to fight for the 43-year-old Finn. “Toni is by far the most important person at DEB,” said Müller of the “German Press Agency”. “No player matters that much. Everything must be done to ensure that he stays.”

Söderholm’s contract expires after the World Cup in his native Finland in May. Talks about an extension have been going on since the end of last year so far without an agreement. The former defender, who surprisingly took over the German team after Marco Sturm left in 2018 and has established himself among the top players in the world, is internationally sought-after. Söderholm recently announced that he wanted to make a decision after the Olympics.

DEB President Franz Reindl described the talks with the Finn as “absolutely good”. But finances are crucial. “I’m very confident,” said Reindl of the dpa.
