Olympics 2022 | Alpine skiing: Sara Hector puts on the giant slalom crown

After the early retirement of Mikaela Shiffrin, Sara Hector has won the gold medal in giant slalom.

The 30-year-old Swede won 30 years after her compatriot Pernilla Wiberg won the Olympics ahead of Federica Brignone from Italy (+0.28 seconds) and World Champion Lara Gut-Behrami from Switzerland (+0.72). Emma Aicher was the only German starter to finish her Olympic debut in 21st place

Shiffrin, giant slalom Olympic champion in 2018, was eliminated in the first run at the seventh gate. “It’s a big big disappointment,” said the 26-year-old American, “I’ll never get over it.”

However, she also emphasized: “I’m not going to cry now, it’s just a waste of energy.” The slalom takes place on Wednesday.
