Olympia 2022: Therese Johaug wins the first gold of the Beijing Games

Norwegian cross-country skier Therese Johaug has won the first gold at the 24th Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.

The 33-year-old world champion prevailed in the skiathlon on Saturday after 44:13.7 minutes, ahead of world cup leader Natalia Nepryaeva (ROC) and Teresa Stadlober (Austria).

The best German was Katherine Sauerbrey (Steinbach-Hallenberg) in 13th place.

For Johaug, it was twelve years after relay gold in Vancouver in 2010, the second Olympic victory. The 14-time world champion missed the 2018 Winter Games due to a doping ban.

After 15 km, the 33-year-old was 30.2 seconds ahead of Nepryaeva, Sauerbrey was 2:23.8 minutes behind the winner.
