Olympia 2022: Eisenbichler flies to a mixed team

For Markus Eisenbichler, the Beijing Winter Olympics began with a bitter disappointment. The 30-year-old finished 31st in the individual competition on the normal hill on Sunday and thus even missed the jump into the second round. For Eisenbichler, the poor performance has direct consequences for the other games.

National coach Stefan Horngacher decided not to nominate the multiple ski jumping world champion for the mixed competition. Instead of Eisenbichler, Constantin Schmid was appointed as the second man to the four-person mixed team of the German Ski Association. The overall World Cup leader Karl Geiger is also there.

With a respectable eleventh place on the normal hill, Schmid got the best result for the German team on Sunday. Karl Geiger, who was 15th, did not live up to the high expectations placed on him either.

Katharina Althaus was seeded for the women after her silver medal on Saturday. The DSV quartet in mixed jumping is completed by Selina Freitag.

The mixed competition starts on Monday at 12:45 p.m. (German time) in Zhangjiakou, where the ski jumping competitions will be held.

Eisenbichler focuses on the large hill

“If you notice that nothing can support you, then you fall off like a wet sack,” said Eisenbichler on Sunday with his weak 31st place. The six-time world champion still has five days to prepare for the next individual decision in ski jumping.

Next Friday, February 11th, the qualification for the individual jumping from the large hill will start. There Eisenbichler is aiming for a significantly improved performance compared to the competition from the smaller normal hill. The decision on the large hill will be made on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. German time.
