After a failed Olympic short program by Chinese figure skater Zhu Yi, China tried to stop an Internet shitstorm against the 19-year-old on Sunday.
As the AFP news agency reports, hashtags have been deactivated on the Chinese social media platform Weibo, which criticized the performance of the native American in the team competition.
Yi fell in the short program in Beijing and set the Chinese team back in the rankings. As a result, there was a lot of ridicule for Yi, who has been competing for China since 2018, with the later deactivated hashtag #ZhuYiFellOver (Zhu Yi fell).
However, another hashtag criticizing Yi’s performance, which already has more than 80 million views, has not been banned. China entered the final of the team competition on Sunday in fifth place.
