MSV Duisburg: sports director Grlic throws down

Sports director Ivo Grlic has offered his resignation after third division soccer team MSV Duisburg lost 3-1 to Borussia Dortmund II.

President Ingo Wald said at “MagentaSport”: “We have accepted the resignation.” The founding member of the Bundesliga is in danger of relegation in the 3rd division.

Grlic was active for the Meiderichers as a player and official for a total of 17 years. In the fall of 2011, he became sporting director at the Zebras.

“If Ivo Grlic hadn’t been there – especially around 2013 – MSV wouldn’t exist anymore. The fact that MSV still plays professional football is a great achievement of Ivo Grlic,” emphasized Wald.

The sporting director’s decision is viewed with great respect by the club. “The pressure was huge. I have absolute respect for Ivo Grlic that he withstood this pressure for so long. He didn’t run away, tried to do everything to ensure that sporting success comes back,” mused Wald.
