More gold for China’s short trackers

China’s short tracker can be relied on at the Winter Olympics.

Two days after winning the mixed relay, Ren Ziwei celebrated his second gold medal in the 1000m. Ren had crossed the finish line in second, but ahead of him, Hungary’s Liu Shaolin Sandor received a penalty for an illegal manoeuvre.

Li Wenlong, who finished second and won silver, also benefited from this. Third place went to Liu Shaoang (Hungary).

In the women’s category, Zhang Yuting narrowly missed out on another precious metal for the hosts. The 22-year-old was fourth in the 500 m.

Gold went to Italy’s Arianna Fontana. Suzanne Schulting (Netherlands) and Kim Boutin (Canada) completed the podium.

Anna Seidel (Dresden) contests her only competition in Beijing over 1500 m.
