Japan scored three vital points in the third round of World Cup qualifiers in Asia.
The team beat Saudi Arabia, leaders in Group B, 2-0 (1-0) in Saitama on Tuesday, giving them a good chance of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The Bundesliga players Genki Haraguchi (Union Berlin), Takuma Asano (VfL Bochum) and Wataru Endo (VfB Stuttgart) were on the pitch. Liverpool striker Takumi Minamino (31′) and Junya Ito from KRC Genk (50′) scored the goals.
A win against Australia on March 24 secures Japan early qualification.
