Egypt superstar Mohamed Salah has started training at Liverpool two days after losing the Africa Cup of Nations final. A Reds social media video on Tuesday shows the 29-year-old entering the training ground.
As team manager Jürgen Klopp announced on Tuesday on the club’s website, the striker could even play in the Premier League home game against Leicester City on Thursday (8:45 p.m. / Sky). “Yes, yes. Sadio doesn’t stand a chance because he’s not even here, but Mo yes,” Klopp said of Salah’s chances of action.
On Sunday, Salah lost the final of the Africa Cup of Nations with Egypt against Senegal and his club colleague Sadio Mané 2-4 on penalties.
“Sadio flies out on Wednesday night if possible and arrives here on Thursday, but of course he won’t be in the Leicester game then,” Klopp continued. Mané had celebrated winning the title after the final with the team in his home country.
Meanwhile, Klopp praised both star strikers for their performances. “I think they both played a great tournament. The responsibility that’s on their shoulders is absolutely huge and the pressure that’s on their shoulders is absolutely insane,” said Klopp: “I have no idea how to must feel in those moments, they pretty much carry a whole country.”
