See you later!

For now we say goodbye to Formula 1 at Silverstone. It continues at 5:00 p.m. with the 2nd training session. We’ll get back to you on time with all the information. Until then!

sample without value

The first practice session at Silverstone took place in wet conditions and the track only dried towards the end of the session. Accordingly, the result is of little value. Only ten drivers drove a time at all, many wanted to test again with slicks at the end, but had to abandon the attempt under red flags after Stroll took off. It should be all the more exciting later in the second training session, because everyone has to make up for lost time.

End of 1st training session

Practice 1 at the Grand Prix Circuit Silverstone is over and everyone is back in the pits. The session doesn’t have much value. The drivers drove only a few laps. Third was Sainz ahead of Leclerc and Mick Schumacher. At one time ten pilots drove.

Valtteri Bottas wins practice 1 of the British Grand Prix

The session will not be restarted and ends with a red flag. Valtteri Bottas set the best time in wet conditions. He needed 1:42.249 minutes on the intermediate. Lewis Hamilton switched to the slick early and ended up 0.5 seconds behind.

Red flag

There is the red flag! Stroll is in the gravel bed at Copse. Seems like it didn’t hit anywhere though.

Center sector still wet

Lewis Hamilton can set the absolute best time in two sectors. In the middle sector, however, the track is still very wet and the Brit clearly has to slow down. The best time remains with Valtteri Bottas.

Now something else happens

After Hamilton showed that it’s possible, the track is now full again and more and more pilots dare to use the soft on the track.

New best lap by Valtteri Bottas

Valtteri Bottas

Valtteri Bottas is still on the Inter, but can set the new best time for now. The Finn drove a 1:42.249. But how long does it last? Hamilton starts with a strong sector best on the soft.

Dry tires for Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton comes into the pits and finally screws the soft on the car again. Now everyone will be curious to see how he copes with it. Some areas are now completely dry, others are still slightly damp.

Other drivers show up too

In addition to Hamilton, other drivers are now showing up on the track again. Sainz, Bottas and Leclerc are out.

Pit radio Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton

The team informs Lewis Hamilton that the wind picks up again at Turn 15. In the meantime, the rain has largely cleared up again, but there will probably not be much driving anymore.

Hamilton drives again

Lewis Hamilton drives out again in his Mercedes car and makes sure that the fans get something to see. He’s still on the intermediate.

Many teams with updates

Williams, Haas, Mercedes and Alpine are among those who have fitted their cars with major upgrade packages at Silverstone. Other teams have also brought minor innovations with them. They should probably be particularly annoyed about the weather, because the packages can hardly be tested under these conditions.

Ferrari with the most laps

There are still almost 20 minutes left in the first training session, so as things stand at the moment, not much should happen. Ferrari has driven the most laps so far. Sainz gets five laps, Leclerc four. In addition, Bottas also turned five laps. However, many were only on the track for one or two laps.

It’s raining again

Now the rain has started again at Silverstone. A lot of driving is probably no longer to be expected in the 1st training session. Lewis Hamilton shows himself outside his box and waves to the numerous spectators from the pit wall.

All in the garage

Now there is complete calm on the route. The entire field of drivers is back in the pit lane. Everyone seems to be waiting to see how conditions change.

Nine drivers at a time

In view of the mixed conditions, the crowds on the track are low. All drivers drove an installation lap, nine of the 20 drivers set a time. Sainz had the best time with a 1:42.967. But that doesn’t mean much.

Schumacher with the first laps

Mick Schumacher has now also started training. On the intermediate he was able to set a 1:43.895, which puts him fourth at the moment. The training lasts about half an hour.

Not much going on yet

Although the sun is coming out more and more, most drivers wait until the track dries further before going out again. Hamilton and Bottas are currently making their rounds. Both are on the Intermediate.

Alfa Romeo is still driving

The majority is now back in the pit lane. Only the two Alfa Romeo drivers are currently on their round.

Pit radio Carlos Sainz

Carlos Sainz

It’ll dry very quickly, I’ll pit,” informs Carlos Sainz. Seems like the Inter isn’t the best tire for these conditions anymore and many prefer to wait for it to dry further.

New best lap by Carlos Sainz

Carlos Sainz

Carlos Sainz drives several laps in a row and now beats the previous best time of his teammate. He had needed 1:42.967 minutes.

Pit radio Pierre Gasly

Pierre Gasly

“We don’t expect any more rain,” Pierre Gasly radioed into his cockpit. If that were the case, we would certainly also see the slick tires in training.

Typical mixing ratios

That’s what Silverstone is known for: After training started with rain, it’s now clearing up and the sun can also be seen from time to time. At one time there are currently four drivers on the account. At least 16 of the 20 pilots got out.

Working on the Schumacher car

While Sebastian Vettel has now also driven out, Mick Schumacher is still working on the car and the Haas driver is studying data.

Little going on

Given the conditions, little is happening on the Silverstone track at the moment. Apart from Charles Leclerc, who is now back in the pits, nobody has set a lap time. Most pilots only come out for a few installation laps before heading back into the pits.

New best lap by Charles Leclerc

Charles Leclerc

Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc was able to improve his lap time. He did 1:43.801 in his last circumnavigation. Lewis Hamilton, for his part, got out of the car.

Red Bull sends Pérez out

Sergio Pérez is also on the road for Red Bull and is testing the conditions on the track. The two Alpines are also on the course.

Leclerc sets the first round

Charles Leclerc

For his part, Charles Leclerc fell by the wayside and is now responsible for the first timed lap in the first practice session. He needed 1:44.769 minutes for his lap.

It goes straight back to the pits

The rain increased just in time for the start of the training and so there was no big outing. Mercedes is already back in the pits, followed by Carlos Sainz.

Start 1st workout

The traffic lights are green, the first practice session at Silverstone has started. The Mercedes have driven out and Ferrari is already on the way. All four riders are on the Intermediate.

The weather

In the sky over Silverstone there are some dark clouds and it’s dripping. The chance of rain for the session is a whopping 100 percent. The track temperature is 25 degrees, the air temperature is 16 degrees.

The distance

The Silverstone Circuit north of London has been part of the Formula 1 program since the very beginning and is one of the classics in motorsport. Above all, the many flowing curve combinations make the 5.891 kilometers in Silverstone a highlight. The sequence of Copse, Maggotts and Becketts, driven at more than 250 km/h, demands everything from the drivers.

1:49 p.m

Gasly will also drive for AlphaTauri in 2023

It has been indicated for some time, now it’s official: AlphaTauri will continue to rely on Pierre Gasly in 2023. The Frenchman, who has finished on the podium three times in his Formula 1 career, extended his contract with Red Bull’s sister team last week. Other drivers are still looking, including Sebastian Vettel and Mick Schumacher.

What is possible for German pilot?

Sebastian Vettel looks back on a rather mixed weekend in Canada and after qualifying didn’t go well in the rain, he didn’t score a point in the race either. Basically, however, Aston Martin seems to be on the up. Mick Schumacher should also be hoping for points at Silverstone. In Canada, the German Haas driver was close, but was then slowed down by a technical defect.

What can Mercedes do?

The big question is once again what Ferrari can do. Lewis Hamilton has won eight times at his home round and loves the track at Silverstone. This year, however, it will be difficult to win again. The Silver Arrows have improved recently, but is it enough to keep up with Red Bull and Ferrari? But there still seems to be a lot of work to be done on the car.

Verstappen comes as a championship leader

After a bumpy start to the season, the tide has now turned in favor of Max Verstappen. The Dutchman has won five of the last six races and is now leading the World Championship by 46 points over team-mate Sergio Pérez. Charles Leclerc in the Ferrari is 49 points behind Verstappen. The next duel between the two top teams will probably take place in Silverstone.

Warm welcome!

Welcome to the British Grand Prix! From 2:00 p.m. the cars will be on the track in the first practice session.
