Liane Lippert has won the women’s race at the German Road Championships for the second time.
After 122 km from Siedlinghausen to Kahler Asten, the 24-year-old prevailed in a group of five in the sprint ahead of Ricarda Bauernfeind and Nadine Gill. Lippert won the first title in 2018.
On Friday, Lisa Brennauer, who played no role on Sunday, secured the championship title in the individual time trial for the fifth time.
In the men’s race, Lennard Kämna had succeeded long-time dominator Tony Martin and clinched his first national title in a race against the clock. Martin, who has won the time trial title ten times since 2010, has now retired.
The German championships end on Sunday with the men’s road race. Maximilian Schachmann has to do without his title defense due to a coronavirus infection. Possible effects on Schachmann’s third participation in the Tour de France (from July 1st) are not yet foreseeable.
